Avoid travel troubles and rediscover the

wanuso.wordpress.com
Home became the place to be. The staycatiomn gained power as Madison Avenue got in on the Everyone was promotingtheir restaurant, tourisf attraction, you name it, as a way to get away from it all withoutt leaving your own city or neighborhood. Why endur the hassle of travel when you can relaxs in the comfort of yourown backyard?? I was skeptical. I love to travel. Besides, it’s tough to relax at home. The laundry pile beckons. The clutterefd closet project moves up thepriorithy list. But after a successfupl Memorial Dayweekend staycation, I’m Count me in among the believers.
Once you acceptr that high-end toiletries won’t magicallyh appear in your bathroom, and that new sheetse won’t grace your bed every day (and who believes they always changr them at ahotel anyway), it can be quitee enjoyable. If you can relegate chores to one small part ofthe day, it’z possible to just focus on what fun activitgy you’re going to embark on and what food will be And that’s what vacations are all abou — to me anyway. And becausr you live in Greater Baltimore, the quotient is high. The city and its environsz have enough to do to keep you busy for many staycationzsto come.
Out-of-towners know this Judging by thelicense plates, Eagles jerseysw and Yankees hats prevalent on the Innerr Harbor promenade and outside the downtown many of them take actual vacationds here. My family moved among them this weekend, playing tourist and never letting on that home was only twomilesx away. In three we managed to save hundreds of dollars and drivse about 10miles roundtrip. At the same we kept a 5-year-old boy entertained and rediscovered the city as a greatt placeto visit. Day One: We took a green sea monster paddleboat, out for a ride.
Though we nearly smacked into the submarine Torsk with son Max it was an otherwise relaxing way to while away a half Taking in the city from the water gives you an entirelyh differentperspective — and a good tan. Day Two: A visit to the Baltimorwe Farmers Market providedgreat people-watching opportunitiezs and more spinach than even Popeye could eat. In the we took advantage of the city’s pool opening a month early. A sandbosx and cold baby pool provided allthe water-related fun needecd for a boy who loves the beach.
Day Three: Helpinvg hoist the giant flag overFort McHenry, meeting veterana and hearing the park rangers talk about the loved ones they lost in Iraq and Afghanistam brought home the true meanin g of Memorial Day. Outside the fort, localas and tourists alike picnicked, strolled and rode bikees by the best view inthe city. So what’s next on the agenda The ethnic festival season kicks off with the Polishu Festival in Patterson Park this And both the National Aquarium and Marylan Science Center have opened blockbusteeexhibits — on jellyfish and dinosaurs. We figuredd we would take them inanother time. No need to cram it all in. That’sx the beauty of the staycation.
There’s always room at the inn.
