The Office of Thrift Supervision (OTS) signefd the supervisory agreement with SouthBank onMay 21. On the same day, it signede a separate supervisory agreement with itsholding Huntsville, Ala.-based Commonwealth Savingsharesa Corp., and a more serious ceass and desist order with its siste institution, SouthBank of Huntsville. The agency created an uproar when it proposedx ways to simplify compliance with currentrtax law, which treats personal use of work-suppliecd cell phones as personal income. That law is “burdensome, poorl understood by taxpayers and difficult for the IRS toadminister consistently,” IRS Commissioner Doug Shulman said in a To simplify compliance, the IRS sought comment on severakl options, included treating 25 percent of the cell phone’s use as personao use.
